50+ Ways To Make Extra Money Today

***This post may contain affiliate links. I do not recommend products that I have not personally vetted and love myself.***

Do you need to make extra money today?

We could all use a little extra money, whether it is to pay down our debt, save for a house, save for retirement, or to just buy that widget we have always wanted.

Whether we like it or not, money powers the world. We just have to live with that.

What we don’t have to live with is not having enough money to buy our own freedom. If we hustle a little (or a lot) on our side hustle we can save $1000s more every year and buy our freedom.

That is the true value of money and is why we work.

50+ Ways to Make Extra Money Today

I have compiled a huge resource for you in which you can find jobs in all kinds of fields for all kinds of specialties.

They are certainly not for everybody, but everybody should be able to find a way or two here to start making more money today.

All you need to get started is the willingness to try new things and the discipline to follow through.

The #1 reason more people don’t make side income and make their lives easier is that it is hard work. There is no getting around it.

If you are willing to put the work in to build a successful side gig, then you will be able to live a whole new life centered around your freedom.

At the end of the post is a summary table of all of the jobs along with categories that you can search through.

Without further ado, let’s get into 150+ ways you can start to make extra money today.

1. Blogging

I guess I have to start off this ultimate list with blogging.

This is the side hustle that I am using to make a side income. It will eventually turn into our only income.

Blogging is certainly not the easy, sure path to freedom, but if you put in the work it can come to fruition.

The sure path to success follows these steps:

  • Choose a niche that is popular
  • Write content that people want
  • Market that content to the people that want it
  • Convert your traffic into money with affiliate marketing, ads, and products

That is all there is to it. It seems simple enough, right?

It is, but it also takes time to build up to a sustainable level of traffic and income.

If you need money right now, then it is probably not for you, but it is perfectly feasible to make $100 your first-month blogging if you take the right steps.

Paul at Billionaire Blog Club has the best guide to blogging I have ever seen.

You can also check out the Billionaire Blog Club lifetime membership as it is a one-stop shop for all the blogging information, answers, and lessons you could possibly need on your blogging journey.

2. eBates

In this day and age, the digital generation, we are all on the computer buying things. We buy our toys, our gadgets, even our groceries online.

When we do this we should be taking advantage of all possible ways to save. The best of which is eBates.

With eBates, you just sign up and it adds a browser extension to your web browser that makes sure you get money back at any applicable retailer.

You can also shop through their website and look for the sites that have the current best deals going on. If you are paitent, more times than not, your favorite site will have a sale and extra cashback with eBates. Its a win-win for you.

The best part of it is, if you sign up with this link, you will get $10 extra cashback on your first purchase!

3. Professional Online Survey Taker

Marketing is pervasive in society today. We cannot get away from it.

But that presents an opportunity for those of us that want to make a little extra money.

In order to market effectively, companies need to do market research and that is where we come in. We take surveys online to help them with their research needs, and we get paid for our opinion.

To get you started, check out these survey companies:

Vindale Research and Vindale Research Mobile

Pinecone Research

Inbox Dollars

Opinion Outpost

YouGov Age 18-44, YouGov Adult Male, and YouGov Minority

All you have to do to get started is sign up and give them some information about yourself. After that, they will start emailing you with opportunities to take surveys.

Pro Tip: Head on over to Gmail and make a new email address for surveys because there will be a lot of emails coming in that will inundate your normal inbox.

You can make anywhere from a few dollars to $1000 a month by taking surveys. It is up to you and how much time and effort you want to put in.

If you want more information on surveys, check out this post on the best survey companies.

4. Nanny

Do you love kids?

You can become a nanny and make easy money taking care of other people’s kids while they are out and about (or at home…).

I have had several friends that have nannied around the world for free housing and food with a meager income, but you can easily do this as a side hustle if you are at home already.

Check out care.com to find jobs locally that you can pick up.

You can make up to $3000 per month or more nannying if you are in demand. So get started today!

5. Dog Walking

Mrs. Atypical worked for a lady that ran a boarding, walking, and grooming business out of her home for awhile. It truly is amazing how much money people will spend on their pets to have other people take care of them.

Get in on some of the action if you like dogs and start up a dog walking side hustle. All you need to get started is a will and the time to take dogs for a walk.

Once again check out care.com for people looking for dog walking services.

If you live in a big city or a populated area with lots of opportunities, you can be making $100 easily each day you take dogs for a walk.

6. Dog Grooming

As a part of Mrs. Atypical’s dog walking and boarding job she also learned how to do fancy dog grooming.

Believe it or not, it really is very easy to do most of those elaborate cuts you see on dogs and other animals. If you don’t already know how it works head on over to our good friend YouTube and search for dog grooming.

Better yet here is the link to check out dog grooming videos.

When you are ready to go out and find people that are looking for dog grooming there are many ways to find potential clients, but care.com is one of the best.

People treat their pets like children so there is a lot of money to be made by cutting their pet’s hair. You can easily make $1000 or more every month pursuing this side-hustle part-time.

7. Drive a Lyft/Uber

At this point in the 21st century, if you have not heard of Lyft or Uber you have been living under a rock.

Both of these services have revolutionized the transportation marketplace. It is no longer necessary to own your own car in the US (though it never really has been “necessary” per say…).

Sign up, get accepted, download the app and start to collect fares taking people from place to place. Easy money!

Check out the sites for Lyft and Uber for much more information on their platform.

You can once again make $1000 or more per month doing this part-time, but be careful to also account for wear and tear on your vehicle, insurance, and gas costs. The master Mr. Money Mustache has an awesome post on the cost-benefit of driving for Uber.

8. Shopping Using Portals

Every time you shop online you could be saving money by shopping through portals. Essentially, the portal makes money by advertising for the vendors that are on the portal and then they pass some of this profit on to you as an incentive to use their platform.

Swagbucks among other things is one of these shopping portals.

Regardless of where you start to find what the item you want to purchase, you should go back and check on Swagbucks to see if it has your retailer on it to help you save more.

9. Freelance Writing

Do you like writing?

It really isn’t that hard, but many people just don’t want to put the time and effort into it. Or else, they are just so busy there is just no time to write.

There is tons of content on the web and it is certainly not all written by the website owners. They contract for freelance writers to get it done.

Enter you! Check out these sites to get started:

As with all of these ways to make extra money, the amount you make is proportional to the amount of work you put in. Put out good content for big sites and you can make $100-$500 for every post you put out.

10. Start a YouTube Channel

YouTube is awesome! No one is going to deny that. Well, maybe China since it is blocked here, but that is actually because it is awesome.

Starting a YouTube channel is as simple as signing up and starting to upload videos.

You can upload videos about anything you want, but to gain a large following and make a good income from YouTube you must put out consistent content. That is the key to success on YouTube.

The craziest part though, is some of the largest channel views come to things you would never expect:

Opening toys!

Who knew, right?

That video got over 500,000,000 views just for opening a Cars toy.

So, brush up on your video editing skills and get making videos!

11. Become a Social Media Manager

Do you love Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, SnapChat…?

Every business and every blog out there whether they like it or not has to use social media.

Marketing is the name of the game and there are lots of people who would love to hand it off to you to take care of.

If you become good at marketing using social media, you can charge a pretty penny to take control of other’s social media accounts and marketing needs.

Put as much work in as you like and you can make $1000s every month. This is a game that many don’t understand (me included) that we would love to hand off to you!

12. Review Websites

Do you browse the internet? I know you do, you are here on my site!

Imagine for a minute making money just by browsing the internet. There are sites out there that will pay you to test out the UI of different sites to see if it works.

Easy money, if I have ever heard about it.

Sign up with a couple of these sites and get started today.

13. Take an Expat Job

I have done this, we moved to China, and what a huge jump in pay it was! We went from making ~$70k per year to >$100k per year, just by taking the expat job over in China.

In order to get an expat job, just let it be known that you are looking for it with your current employer and also start putting out feelers on Linked In and other networking sites.

There are not too many expat jobs out there, but then again, there aren’t many people willing to move across the world for them. Their loss is your gain!

For much more on my story of how I got an expat job, check out this post.

For all the reasons you should take an expat job, not the least of which is the money check out my 8 reasons to take an expat job.

14. Become a VA

When you start a business you have this grand idea, it is also rainbows and unicorns…

Then reality hits and you have all the administrative work to do as well. Enter the VA or virtual assistant.

As a virtual assistant, you can perform searches and content research, create content, manage social media, look up dinner establishments, pretty much anything your client has a need for.

If you are interested in getting started with the VA job, there are plenty of opportunities out there.

Get started with Upwork and search to find a good fit for you. Like all of these opportunities, you get paid proportionally to your effort.

15. Do Little Jobs on Fiverr

Fiverr is an awesome platform.

As a business owner, you just want something done cheap and fast.

As a contractor, you want to get your feet wet with doing small things online and you even get paid for it.

It’s a win-win. You get experience working with clients and you can learn new skills as you go.

It’s not a get rich quick scheme. If you complete your job in 5 minutes, then you can make $60 per hour, but let’s be reasonable. You are probably going to be working for somewhere around $10-20/hr.

Not bad for getting started.

If this sounds good to you, check out Fiverr today!

16. Become a Photographer

Pictures bring the web alive and make everything more interesting. Besides that everybody needs photography services at some time in their life.

If you enjoy taking and editing pictures, then becoming a photographer could be the right move for you.

The best resource Mrs. Atypical and I have ever used for photography is Creative Live.

They have both free live lessons and paid lessons on all the topics relevant to starting and growing a photography business.

As a photographer, you start by building your portfolio and then you can concentrate on the area that makes you money or that makes you the happiest. Hopefully, that is the same area…

17. Start a Podcast

Content is king.

It really doesn’t matter whether that content is text (ie blogging), video (ie Youtube), or solely audio (ie podcasts). Simply put content is king.

Podcasts really give you a chance to connect with your audience and lets them really hear your personality.

Getting started on podcasting is pretty simple. All you need is a mic for your computer and you are ready to go. Download an audio editing program (Audacity is the gold standard open–source software) and get started today.

If you are really interested in the intricacies involved in hosting a podcast head on over to SPI and their podcast course.

18. Start a Membership Site

What is a membership site you ask?

This is a site where you pay a membership fee to be part of a community. The best one I am a part of is Billionaire Blog Club. You can think of an online platform that you pay to subscribe to as a membership site.

You build amazing content, and then charge people for using/viewing your content.

There are plenty of niches that you could create a membership site in. Here are just a few:

  • Personal Finance
  • How to Make Money
  • Weight Loss
  • Health
  • and on and on and on…

If you charge $100 membership fee and you can get 10 people to sign up every month that is $1000. These sites scale really well in terms of income and can become quite passive. So get started today.

19. Start a Niche Site

A niche site is one that is incredibly specific about just one topic. The reason they can generate income is that very few other people have sites that cover the same topics.

With over 7 billion people in the world, it doesn’t matter what your topic, someone is searching for it.

Mrs. Atypical and I plan to start a niche site next year on tandem cycling since there is such a poor information base on it and we love it.

Take your passion and turn it into a niche site, just keep it in your mind that it is a business if you plan to make extra money using it.

20. Start a SaaS or PaaS site

These 2 options are primarily for web developers and those of us that enjoy coding.

If you do not know:

  • SaaS: software as a service
  • PaaS: platform as a service

Both of these essentially have you licensing out technology for others to use. In the blogging arena, examples are sites that you push your pictures to for compression before they come back, and social media schedulers.

An example of PaaS is wordpress.com, blogger.com, mautic.com, etc. which host your sites for you so you do not have to deal with web hosting yourself.

If you are decent at coding and can build a platform that is useful, then creating a software or platform as a service could be an excellent way to build your passive income portfolio.

21. Start a Web Hosting Site

Web hosting is huge!

Every website on the internet has to be physically located on a computer somewhere and 99% of us do not have our own hardware to make this happen.

Enter the web host. These companies provide virtual machines (multiple computers on one physical computer) with various amounts of support and services to make entering web businesses easier.

Creating your own hosting site is fairly simple as far as development goes.

Contract with Digital Ocean, the global leader in fast reliable servers. You don’t need to deal with hardware yourself.

Then, set up a platform on top of their hardware, probably utilizing LXC so you can have more independent servers than virtual machines generally allow.

Create your web hosting site and get hosting.

People pay $2.95 for Bluehost shared hosting up to $1,000s per month depending on the amount of computing power they need for their web projects. The sky is the limit for your income potential.

22. Sell eBooks on Amazon

Do you want to write a book, but don’t know how to market it and sell it?

Traditional publishing houses are confusing and expensive. But the ever prevalent Amazon has your back now.

Write your ebook on any topic you desire, at any length you desire and then post it on Amazon for sale as an ebook.

This really lowers the barrier to entry for publishing because you can get your name out there and get sales without having to prove to the publisher beforehand that your work is worth their effort.

You can write fiction, non-fiction, tutorials, pretty much anything you want and publish it using Amazon.

The great thing about eBooks is once they are published your income from it is pretty passive. You just have to market, market, market. Some books will make you $100, but others could make you $1000s. As you write more and more your work will continue to get better.

23. Find Contract Jobs on Upwork

Upwork is such an amazing site! You can find people looking for all kinds of services here.

From writing to marketing, proofreading to web development, they have pretty much everything.

Head on over to Upwork and browse around. You are sure to find jobs that you are qualified for and that you can bid on. You can make $1000s every month by fulfilling contracts on Upwork.

24. Sell Stuff on Craigslist

Craigslist is one of the best marketplaces ever setup. There are no membership fees, no transaction fees, no nothing. They provide solely a platform for you to buy and sell goods and services locally.

Once you are matched up with your prospective buyer/seller, you work it out between yourselves how the transaction will go.

Craigslist is a great way to get rid of those big items that you don’t want to sell via eBay or others because shipping them is just too much of a hassle. Post them on Craigslist and the buyer will come to you to purchase and take them away.

We all have stuff in our house that we could do to get rid of. Check out the minimalist challenge here.

All of the stuff you are clearing out can be sold via Craigslist.

A word of warning: There are a lot of scammers on Craigslist. It is best to deal in cash and in person while conducting transactions on the platform.

What are you waiting on? Clean out your house today and turn it into cold, hard cash!

25. Sell Stuff on eBay

Much like Craigslist, eBay provides you with an online marketplace to buy and sell goods.

The difference here? Your marketplace is worldwide, so your income potential is higher due to more people willing to bid on your items.

If you have something rare or valuable to get rid of, it is probably better to sell it via eBay than Craigslist.

I sell most of my bike parts on eBay because there are so many more people looking for them when you take the US as a whole.

The main drawback to using eBay is the number of fees you will pay on your transaction. The PayPal fee is ~3% and then the “Final Value Fee” (FVF) assessed by eBay at the end of your auction or when your item sells is ~10%. The FVF varies based on the category of item you are selling with some fees higher and others lower.

However, you can earn more than 15% more selling on eBay than with Craigslist for some items, so the fee is worth it for access to a larger marketplace.

So start selling on eBay today. It’s as easy as snapping a photo with your phone and writing a short ad.

26. Sell with Amazon FBA

Did you know you can sell using Amazon?

Amazon is not just a storefront for Amazon, but a storefront for anyone that wants to be a part of it.

FBA stands for Fulfilled By Amazon. In other words, you ship your goods to Amazon, they store them, pick them, and ship them when sold. It is probably one of the easiest platforms to use for selling as you do not have to deal with shipping to all your different customers.

The best way to make use of Amazon FBA is to do retail arbitrage. In other words, go around to your favorite stores and pick up things that are popular when you find them on sale. Resell them with Amazon and pocket the profits.

If you become good at this, you can make $1000s every month just buying and reselling goods.

27. Proofread for Others Online

Grammar nuts unite!

Do you get annoyed when you read a site or a paper that is full of grammatical errors and misspellings?

The best part about the internet is everyone can publish content. The worst part about the internet is everyone can publish content.

This where you enter to help fix these technical errors in documents and content in general. Check out Upwork to find clients that are actively looking for proofreading help.

28. Sell Custom Designed T-Shirts

T-shirts are one of the easiest products that you can make. All you need is a good saying or a good picture and then head online to find a business that will screenprint them for you.

Then it is up to you to sell them. Head on over to eBay, Amazon FBA, and others to list your new shirts for sale. You can also create a custom storefront for your shirts to make it look more exclusive.

Run a Facebook Ad campaign along with a Google Ad campaign and you can drive lots of traffic to your new shirt business.

Come out with a new shirt design every few months and you are well on your way to making extra money passively.

29. Invest Your Savings

Investing your money in the stock market and other areas is a great way to make some extra money and it is completely passive.

Put your money in and wait, and wait, and wait…

In the long run returns on your investments in index funds are 7-10% depending on your time horizon and how good you are at waiting.

Will it make you money today? No, but it will make you rich slowly.

30. Peer-to-Peer Lending

Another way to earn extra money passively is to loan it out and charge interest on it.

There are multiple platforms to lend money on nowadays that allow you to choose which businesses or individuals you are going to lend to.

They really help by developing a rating algorithm so that you can know how risky each investment is. The riskier an investment is, the more it will return, but it also has a higher potential to flop and not return your principle.

It is a balance of investment risk that you must make.

Here is a short list of reputable peer-to-peer lending service providers:

Get started with one of these platforms today and you can be making a passive income within the month.

31. Sell Gift Cards

Have gift cards that you need to liquidate, but don’t know where to get rid of them?

We seem to accumulate gift cards but never spend the money on them.

Enter Raise. They buy your old gift cards so you can convert them to cash.

The other method to make money selling gift cards is to buy them at a discount and then resell them for full value. Luckily Raise has you covered there as well.

Full value gift cards can be sold on eBay among other sites.

32. Participate in Paid Research Studies

Paid research studies are a great way to earn some extra money. Just like surveys, every company needs to know its audience and there is no better way than to interview their audience.

Just do a Google search for Paid Research Studies in your local area.

33. Use Swagbucks for Online Search

I mentioned Swagbucks above in relation to using it as a shopping portal. But did you know you can make money for just using it as your search engine?

Bing ran a similar program when they were first starting out, but they failed to gain any market share compared to Google.

Swagbucks shares some of their ad revenue with you when you search, so why not?

Free money, right?

You certainly are not going to get rich, but the pennies add up over time.

34. Trade Options

High risk, high reward! Trading options are not for the faint of heart.

Options are leveraged (ie you are borrowing money to put in the market) financial instruments where you can essentially place bets on the direction the market is moving.

By shorting the market you place a bet that the market is going to go down and you actually make money when everybody else is losing it. This is how a minority of people made a killing in the great recession from 2008.

You can also bet on the market going up with options and just regularly invest while leveraged which provides you with the chance for much better returns.

It is definitely a high risk, high reward arena and you need to do your research before you enter the arena.

35. Trade Cryptocurrencies

Cryptocurrencies are the newest investment out there and they are continually evolving.

They are completely based upon software developers bringing about a software solution to traditional money. They have developed a technology called the blockchain that provides a mechanism for distributed accounting that is immutable (not changeable) and can build value.

Of course, the value is only built of people adopt the new technology, but Bitcoin and Ethereum have definitely become well-adopted cryptocurrencies.

Check out this post on how to invest in cryptocurrencies.

Do your research using Cryptocompare and CoinMarketCap.

Get started today by investing using Coinbase.

36. Become a Day/Swing Trader

Your goal as a day trader and a swing trader is to make an income. This is contrary to the goal of an investor which is to generate long-term growth.

As a day trader you are watching daily fluctuations of stocks, securities, cryptocurrencies, etc. and attempting to buy in low and sell high during the day. At the end of the day, you sell out your position and return to your base currency.

By doing this you can generate an income of $1000+ per month. Many people make their livings as day traders, so it is absolutely a viable way to make money.

There are a lot of techniques for technical analysis of trends to help with learning when to buy and sell. By using these you can raise your probability of success.

Check out the Chain Operators site and course for much more info on technical analysis and how he day trades cryptocurrencies to make his living.

37. Do Affiliate Marketing for companies

Every company has to market and it is hard work. If you wanted to do all your marketing in-house you would have to have an army of marketers.

Why not build your army out of volunteers and pay them a small cut of the profits?

This is essentially what you are doing as an affiliate marketer for a company. You market that companies products to your audience and they pay you for all your qualified referrals.

The income potential here is the sky, but you first must build up an air of trust with your audience before you can market to them and get them to buy all of the products you market to them.

Check out Michelle’s course Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing for much more information straight from the master.

38. Create Online Courses

I love online courses. They allow us to learn from home with only the requirement of an internet connection.

Now, you can take advantage of the convenience of online courses and the audience it creates by creating your own courses.

Don’t worry, online courses do not require you to be an expert on the subject. You simply have to be farther along in the learning curve than your students.

Online courses can be:

  • All text
  • Text and graphics
  • Text and videos
  • All videos with worksheets
  • Videos with interactive content

It really is up to you how fancy you make it, but video courses seem to go over the best. Though your video course can simply be a screen capture session of a PowerPoint presentation with voice over.

So get started today by making a course and uploading it to one of these wonderful platforms for sale:

39. Offer Resume Help

Everybody needs to make money. Whether we like it or not it makes the world go around.

To that end, nearly everyone needs a job and you can capitalize on this need by offering resume services where you help prospects optimize their resumes to attract the attention of potential recruiters.

You are definitely not helping people embellish their resumes with false info, but simply helping them format and write their resume so that recruiters will be interested.

For this service, you can easily charge $50-100 per resume because you are helping clients make future money. That kind of money quickly adds up if you can find clients.

Like so many other ways to make extra money, head on over to Upwork to find potential clients and offer your services.

40. Tutor Students

School is an attempt to be one-size fits all approach to education and we all know that doesn’t actually work. Not all people learn in the same fashion.

Some students are visual learners, some learn from textbooks, and still others from interactive exercises among other methods.

In school, there is simply not enough time to accommodate all students, so they do their best to accommodate the majority.

Tutors come in to fill the gap. You can give individual attention to your students and really help them progress in their knowledge. Tutor specific subjects or all subjects if you have a broad knowledge base.

You can also tutor those students that are ahead of the curve and wish to pursue higher learning faster.

41. Teach a Foreign Language

Learning a foreign language is a very useful skill. Even if you never go to another country and never need to actually speak a foreign language it gives you an appreciation of the difficulty of learning second languages.

Most immigrants have to go through the process of learning a foreign language to help them assimilate into society.

Like putting up an online course you simply have to be farther along than your students are. Mrs. Atypical is not quite fluent in Mandarin, but she teaches beginner’s Mandarin to English speaking foreigners.

Teaching a foreign language can be done in person or over Skype, with Skype really making it accessible to so many people. Using Skype greatly expands your potential clientele.

You can easily make $20-50 per hour for your services teaching a foreign language. Get started here.

42. Become a Pet Sitter

Every time people go out of town they either need to pay to board their animals or else have a pet sitter come over to take care of Todo.

All you have to do is visit their house several times a day to take care of their animals or bring their animals home to your house for the duration of their owner’s absence.

If you already have pets this a very easy way to make extra money. Get started today finding clients on care.com.

43. Become a Personal Trainer

Motivation is hard to come by when you are pushing yourself to be uncomfortable to lose weight or improve your performance in a sport.

Ente the personal trainer. Your job is to be a hard ass and push your clients in the direction of personal improvement. You can help them lose weight, gain fitness, race better, etc.

Start off every new client with a 1-on-1 interview to understand what they want to get out of your services so you can accommodate them, then comes the fun part of helping them improve themselves.

You are building a better version of them and the fulfillment you get from this cannot be understated.

Get started with your personal training side hustle today.

44. Become a Notary

In the age of the internet and electronic forms and records, you would think that the notary is obsolete. At least, I would hope it was obsolete.

It is not.

Therefore, becoming a notary is an easy way to make some extra money today and into the future. Business and government still do not trust electronics, so they require printouts that are then stamped and signed by the notary.

Someday, this job will likely be eliminated, but today it is still in high demand for all inter-institution transactions.

Get started becoming a certified notary using the guide from National Notary and then find those that need your services.

45. Start a Car-Washing Business

Do you remember working at the high school car wash growing up raising money for whichever club?

It is legit. You can easily make some extra money washing cars for friends, family, and neighbors. Nobody really wants to wash their car, so you can capitalize on that dislike for your own benefit.

If you become good at it, then you can charge even more for detailing work that is normally left for the carwash/detailing shop professionals.

46. Start a Lawnmowing Business

You also have the mowing of lawns that many just cannot be bothered to do. I have met a total of 1 person in my life that mowed their lawn because they enjoyed it. He push mowed 7 acres actually. Crazy!

Others started mowing lawns as a kid and then built it into a full-fledged landscaping business.

All you need to get started is a lawnmower and a way to get it to the yard that needs mowing. With practice, you can make their lawns look better and healthier than before.

Potential clients will pay anywhere from $20 to $100+ to have their lawns mowed. If you get a collection of 5-10 per week that you mow, you can easily bring in $1000+ per month simply mowing lawns in your spare time.

47. Become a Copywriter

This is not the same as a copyright. In marketing vernacular, the word “copy” simply means text. So a copywriter is someone that writes sales/marketing “copy” (ie text) to advertise whatever it is they are selling.

There is an art and a science to successful copywriting and if you perfect your skill your services become in demand and you can generate a decent monthly income.

There is certainly no shortage of opportunities as a copywriter as well since every business must market. Without it, you are simply pursuing an expensive hobby.

Check out Upwork for job opportunities.

48. Become a Bookkeeper

Tracking your money is essential to being successful with your personal finance.

If you enjoy tracking your own money, you can expand your clientele from just you to include other businesses where you can track their financial transactions.

The cool part about becoming a bookkeeper for outside businesses is that you are likely not the one that inputs the data into the database. You provide the platform for the business owners and employees to input their transactions an then you review, clean, analyze and report the data.

As a bookkeeper, you are performing the job of data analyst on financial transaction data for companies.

Every company must track their financial data for tax purposes, so there is no shortage of opportunity. You will work with smaller clients first to get your name established and then can move to larger clients.

Likely though, in order to generate a decent income of $3000 per month, you would be handling 5-10 clients.

49. Become a Wedding Officiant

Are you married?

If yes, you know first-hand how expensive everything relating to a wedding can be. Let’s work to make a part of that expense ours.

The wedding officiant for a non-religious wedding has a very easy role in the wedding. All they have to do is stand at the front and run the ceremony. After that, it is time to go home.

For an investment of an hour with the couple before the wedding and an hour or so the day of the wedding you get paid $200-500. Not a bad hourly rate of $100-250/hr. Granted that doesn’t take into account travel time, but it is still a nice chunk of change.

2-3 weddings per month can easily boost your income from your regular job and make life better.

Becoming an officiant is as easy as applying to your local state and taking a short course. Head on over to WikiHow for a good tutorial of becoming a wedding officiant.

50. Become a Wedding Planner

Another way to get your part of the wedding expense is to become a wedding planner.

If you love organizing and planning events then the wedding planner is a great opportunity for you. You get to meet people that are in the throes of love but stressed about getting everything lined up and ready.

Your first time organizing the wedding may be hectic too, but after that, you have the contacts and are ready to continue running the show.

You can easily charge $1000-5000 for your services as a wedding planner.

51. Become a Wedding Photographer

On the happiest day of your life, you must have someone there to document it and record it for all posterity.

The wedding photographer is quintessential to a good wedding and charges an amount proportional to how important they know they are.

If you love photography, then getting into the wedding photography business is a great way to make extra money. You can start by being an assistant photographer for others to learn how it works.

You can also look at doing one cheap or free wedding for a friend or acquaintance to build your portfolio but be quick to raise your price so you are not seen as a cheap photographer.

In addition to the wedding day, typical packages with a wedding photographer include engagement photos. For the grand total of 5-6 hours on site and an equivalent amount of time or more editing photos, you can easily charge $2000-10,000.

This kind of money can quickly make wedding photographer turn from side hustle to main income. Check out Creative Live for many free and paid classes on how to get into wedding photography.

52. Become a Wedding Videographer

Much the same as the wedding photographer, your job as a videographer is to document the day for the years to come. If you are into video creation and editing then you can easily enter the business of wedding videographer.

The time investment will be a pre-determined amount of time at the wedding and then however much time it takes you to edit the video for your client.

For example, you may be at the wedding for 5 hours and then edit the video down to 20-30 minutes for your client. That video editing process may take an additional 5-10 hours. So for an investment of 15 hours, you can charge $1000-5000 for your services.

Once again, Creative Live has an amazing collection of free and paid classes to get you started on your journey.

This is why the prices of weddings are so high these days. But who are we to buck that trend when we are seeking extra money.

53. Become a DJ

No wedding is complete without a DJ! Your job is to pump everybody up and get them excited. What an awesome job… if you are good at it.

Becoming a DJ is not too difficult if you are an audiophile. You just need to acquire the speaker and sound equipment or else rent it when you go out to DJ for a wedding.

  1. Quite a lot of these which can take a while to get going, mainly blogging I find takes a long while. When I was a bit younger I started dog walking services around my area, walking them through my local park. I found that to be a decently successful way for a teen to earn some money. I’ve also dabbled in content creation on sites such as Fiverr and of course I frequently sell odds and ends around my home which I don’t need. I’m trying to make something of my blog long term though of course, but freelance to earn some extra income. Great post!

    1. Indeed. Most of these require work to be put in up front to see the rewards in the future. Building a base of support makes long-term money-making easier. However, I tried to weave in a good amount that is simply work that can be done now and paid now. Thanks for stopping by Martin.

  2. Hey, great post. I can see you put much work into this.

Now, of all the methods you’ve mentioned, I can vouch for a few that I have tried. A few of those can start making you money even in a day but then the more instant the method, the less passive it is. Take Upwork, for example. I got my first freelancing job the first time I applied. I have gone on to make quite a bit of money from there.

Fiver is also pretty instant if you do everything right. But for a more passive avenue, I can say YouTube pretty much is it, even though it takes time. I have a channel that talks about Stock trading and believe it or not, I just made 3 videos that I optimised for SEO and these have gained me over $7000 in affiliate commissions. (The program I am on offers is lifetime revenue share)

But, to be honest, it was more of a luck thing although I later came to learn what really works. I posted them in November 2016 and they also brought me $260 from YouTube Adsense. It’s only that YT has disabled channels with less than 4000 watch hours in the past 12 months so no Adsense earning for me, but I still continue to make affiliate commissions from the platform I promoted. (I have 1550 subs)

I also helped my brother to start a simple YouTube Channel about animals and after applying the tricks I had picked up, one of his videos picked up. It’s just that he does not post frequently since he is busy.

YouTube is great if you are passionate about your subject. For example, there are lots of gamers that can make money off it. All you need is a free screen recorder, and a video editor – some screen recorders come with an inbuilt editor (I have reviewed these in one of my posts)

Also, in line with what you have posted, I have a post coming up about 100 ideas for a YouTube channel. I will take the time to go through your whole site and see what other nuggets I can find.

    Cheers, Bruce.

    1. Thanks Bruce. My wife and I are definitely looking into Youtube as we look to start traveling full-time next year. I have dabbled in video editing and it takes so long… Maybe we will start again with it later. Glad you were able to luck out with it. My dad also keeps pushing for Youtube.

  3. True, there are more ways through which we can earn money such as selling and buying of gift cards and trading on gift cards

  4. There is another site to use to sell your unwanted items. ebluejay.com is free to list, free to sell unlike ebay. It doesn’t have as much traffic as ebay but it also not as saturated. I have sold several things on ebluejay and when I do post an item, I promote it on pinterest and twitter.
